Rebel or Special by Chandana Ramesh

Chandana is a biomedical engineering student at Osmania University. An ambivert, she feels writing is the best way of expression. Robert Frost and Oscar Wilde inspire her but seeks refuge in Indian authors when it comes to novels. Here is her poem:

Rebel or Special!?

When everybody has long hair,

But you cut your hair short,

When everybody has short hair,

But you let your hair grow,

You are not a Rebel, You are Special. 

When everybody is dressed gaudy,

But your attire is soberly,

When everybody is dressed ashy,

But you decided to be flashy,

You are not a Rebel, You are Special.

When everybody is a dog lover,

But you want to be a cat mother,

When everybody is a cat lover,

But you want to be a dog mother,

You are not a Rebel, You are Special.

When everybody loves sunshine,

But you think the rain's divine,

When everybody loves the rain,

But you wait for the sun in vain,

You are not a Rebel, You are Special. 

When everybody's there outdoors, 

But you want to read a book indoors,

When everybody reads a book, 

But you want to explore the world's outlook

You are not a Rebel, You are Special.

When everybody says, 'Yes please',

But you say 'No Thank you'

When everybody says, 'Don't do it',

But you say 'Yes, let's do it',

You are not a Rebel, You are Special.

Although the world doesn't approve of it,

Although the world doesn’t acknowledge it,

You are still not a Rebel,

You are goddamn Special!

You are not a any mineral from the earth,

You are the oyster pearl that’s rare and and in dearth.
