Soul Sunday - April 2021
The April Soul Sunday took place in the basement of MR Book Center at Begumpet. Amid book cartons and the masked faces (literally!), it seemed more like a secret meeting of writers. But yes, the whole idea of meeting was to exchange ideas on writing and read and listen to each other’s work. About thirty of us gathered (about ten on Zoom and the rest, braving the virus and the Sunday laziness) and read poetry, Urdu, Hindi and English.
The theme of many of the poems was around
the heart. But there were few poets who broke the spell with their charm with
poems such as: Coffee. Khulhad ki Chai. It’s so sad. Apart from these poems,
there were many that stole the show and we will be posting them, one by one on
our blog in the coming weeks.
Back to Soul Sunday.
As the morning
progressed to noon, the group of poets became more comfortable and made the atmosphere
congenial and filled with laughter and applause. The poems and the shayari only
added to the charm. Our host, Gulam, a doctor and a multifaceted artist, added
his wit when we hit a small technical snag. But then the steam resumed with the
Zoom call participants displaying equal fervor and enthusiasm.
A few thank yous to the generous host, MR
Uncle, who offered the space and also the yummy Maaza, the go-to summer beverage, Vaibhav, my book club
friend, and Vamsi, the photographer, Chandana, our generous volunteer and a
participating poet, our inhouse editor Surela and our Digital marketing
specialist Kunika, who ensured the event went as smooth as it could and yes, we
will work on our sound system.
And lastly, but importantly, thank you participants
who sat through patiently and attended it, be it online or offline, despite the
challenges of a Sunday morning.
Thanks for the mention!! You make me feel very important. Really loved the experience today and feel happy to see poetry thrives in the era of machines.
