About Nila:

Nila (penname) is a writer and storyteller. She started her career in journalism at The Times of India and The New Indian Express (byline: Shilpa Krishnan). After a travel volunteering stint where she worked with children, she switched careers and started working in education start-ups as a storyteller and content and curriculum creator.

She co-authored a novel titled ''Hello, Mister Postman'', published by Thannaram Publications. Her picture books ''Muthu's Sky'' and ''The Foreigner'' were published by Thumbi, a bilingual magazine for children. As a storyteller, she has performed at the Bookaroo Literary Festival in New Delhi. She has conducted over 700 storytelling sessions and 100+ teacher workshops across schools in South India. She loves spending time with the dogs and cats in her neighbourhood. She wrote a couple of columns for The Hindu's online edition, titled: Diary of a Little woman, Back to the village

One of her  "Diary of a little woman" pieces has  appeared in an English  textbook for 6th standard (CBSE). In 2006, She was diagnosed as bipolar at the age of 19, at a time when mental health was still a taboo. Over time, and with the help of many well-wishing humans and healers, she learnt to look at the diagnosis as a blessing and make the most of it.

Writing was her biggest self-therapy tool (apart from various external things). In this workshop, she will be taking us through her journey of writing for healing and helping us with ours.
