India, You suck at Equity by Vidya Premkumar

India,

you suck at equity.

A dam, a source of a lifeline for thousands

drained out at the whim of a government official,

high on the selfie culture.

His phone sucked in water meant

for 1500 acres of land in summer,

only to come belly up dead.

How many mouths will run dry this year,

to feed the egos of those in power?

India,

you suck at equity.

The taxpayer bleeds into coffers,

running on fumes, eating grabbed food,

eyes glazed from peering closely.

There are no protective gears,

no bodyguards and protectors for the citizens

from the onslaught of corporate slavery.

Capitalism scoops its giant hands,

into the blood-filled coffers

pulling out the gold, ignoring the tainted blood on it.

How many minions will have to be sacrificed

to feed the greed of the corporates?

India,

You suck at equity.

The grand ceremony at the inauguration

of a structure symbolic of the country’s spirit,

blessed only by male priests of the dominant religion,

and the coronation of the King of anarchy,

sweeping under the carpet, the multicultural,

the diversity and the minorities,

manhandling the wrestlers who brought glory,

and wrapped themselves in the country’s flag,

when they asked for justice, for recognition of evil

residing in power, outside the structure

that represented this country.

How many farmers and athletes will have to be forfeited

for this country to awaken to reality?

India,

You suck at equity.

A few hundred hold hostage

a nation of a billion.
