Coffee below, books above
Before you enter Bahrisons Booksellers, you have to encounter Blue Tokai. It’s a lovely café, with lovely crowd pouring in. On the floor above the structure on Road No. 36 of Jubilee Hills is Bahrisons, replete with more than five lakh books, covering almost all categories such as poetry, autobiography, fiction novel, memoir, biography, non-fiction, etc. The bookshelves are spread over in small rooms of the floor. Alright, let us face the truth. The bookstore is also another bookstore, of course, with a larger collection of books found in most stores. What brings Bahrisons more credibility than other bookstores is that it is some 73 years old brand, with its parent store in Delhi. Established by Balraj Bahri Malhotra in 1953, the bookstore must be lauded for standing the test of time, especially since the advent of online book-buying avenues. Aashna Malhotra, the third-generation bookseller at the store, said that every Bahrisons had a unique identity. "Our Delhi stores reflect the realities of a city where space is limited. They are densely packed with books and designed for discovery around every corner. Hyderabad Bahrisons is designed in a bungalow with balconies and natural light, with every room serving as a mini library."
Besides, of course, housing books, the store also hosts book release functions and other interactive sessions. One amenity that deserves to be mentioned before signing off is that the café downstairs, which is where the restrooms are, includes a restroom with ‘gender-neutral’ written on it.
